Viagra and Species Protection

People may think of Viagra merely as a treatment for symptoms of sexual dysfunction particularly erectile dysfunction.  Rightly so because Viagra is indeed the first and still the top-selling erectile dysfunction drug in the United States and some parts of the world today.

However, there are indications that Viagra may be favourable for the environment after all particularly in protecting endangered species.  Viagra’s efficacy as an erectile dysfunction drug has become widespread that patients having erection problems are turning to Viagra instead of other remedies and alternative treatments.

Before the advent of Viagra, patients suffering from sexual dysfunction turned to endangered species like the rhinoceros and the tigers for their alternative cure.  Others turn to endangered animals for use as aphrodisiac which added to the pressure of demand for such endangered species.  Asian countries like China have been known to supply tiger penises and rhinoceros horns as sexual stimulants. This has led to a rise in the number of poachers in Africa and other countries including North America and Asia.

To date, only less than 6,000 tigers remain in the wilderness due to the high prices the tiger skeleton, penis and other parts of its body commands on the market.  The World Wildlife Foundation confirmed that the number of tigers existing in the wilds have dropped by 95%.  On the other hand, rhinoceros have declined by 95% since 1970.

For sure, Viagra has not been manufactured to respond to environmental degradation and species preservation.  However, these could be the unintentional effects of Viagra’s popularity as an erectile dysfunction drug.

But there are sectors who believe that no matter how popular Viagra is and no mater how consumption of this drug increases in the future there is still no assurance that it can totally put an end to poaching or the sale of endangered animals.  Some people believe that alternative and traditional medication will still be preferred by patients in lieu of synthetic drugs like Viagra.

However, if the worldwide sales of Viagra and the other erectile dysfunction drugs are an indication, more people are turning to these drugs to improve their sexual health.  Viagra is generally safe provided the patient takes in the drug only following a doctor’s prescription.

Asian demand for Viagra is also on the rise with the corresponding increase in the number of Asian men suffering from erectile dysfunction.  In China alone, Viagra is being sold in the black market for $300 a tablet while in Korea, smuggled Viagra costs $25 per tablet.  However, there is no assurance that Viagra sold by these sellers are genuine so make sure to purchase your Viagra only from licenses and authorized pharmacies.
