Man woman viagraRevealed: Side Effects of Viagra

Viagra is an effective medication for erectile dysfunction and this can be attested to by millions of men who have used Viagra for their sexual problems.  Often called the little blue pill because of its appearance, Viagra has saved a lot of men from their impotency problems.

Sidenafil or Viagra can help you achieve an erection as well as maintain such erection for a prolonged period to complete sexual intercourse.  While Viagra is a lot safer than the other erectile dysfunction medications, it can also pose some side effects to your health among which are.......................

Vision impairment

Some users of Viagra have experienced blurriness and impairment of vision.   By 2005, the US Food and Drug Administration advised consumers to be cautious when using Viagra after it has found out that the use of Sildenafil can lead to impairment in vision.  Those taking in Protease inhibitors for HIV treatment are also advised to limit their intake of Sildenafil to avoid severe side effects.

Priapism

Remember those old wives tales about some penis not returning to its original flaccid state? These are not tales but are actually true and is characteristic of a medical condition called Priapism.  Anyone experiencing this condition should immediately be brought to a medical expert for emergency treatment.  The term actually comes from the name of the Greek god Priapus.  Priapus attempted to rape a goddess and was punished with huge wooden genitals that were useless.  Without immediate treatment, Priapism can result to thrombosis or blood clot in the penis, ischemia and even penis removal once gangrene sets in.  An erection that does not subside even after four hours requires emergency treatment.

Hypotension

This condition is said to be the opposite of hypertension as it results to abnormal and very low blood pressure.  While hypotension is not really a disease and therefore not a serious problem, there is however a possibility for this condition to become life threatening.

Myocardial infarction

This condition is commonly known as a heart attack.  This medical condition has been identified as one of the side effects of using Viagra.  This results from the interruption of blood supply to the heart.  Men who have a history of a previous attack or of angina should inform their doctors about their condition before taking in Viagra so their dosage can be adjusted.

Drug dependence

While its manufacturers has assures users that Viagra is not habit forming, there is a growing concern about the possibility of recreational users getting hooked on Viagra.  Users classified under this category include young men who do not really need Viagra for erectile dysfunction.  In the long, it is feared that their dependency on Viagra as a recreational drug will result to their inability to maintain an erection without Viagra.

Like every other drug in town, Viagra also has its negative effects.  However, if you use Viagra under the strict supervision of your doctor and following the safety measures indicated by the FDA then you lessen the chances and the severity of its side effects.
