tesco signDoctor from Liverpool says Tesco should not sell Viagra OTC

Just this week the news on Tesco offering Viagra over the counter (OTC) was released in the media. Most men in the United Kingdom are thrilled to be able to buy Viagra right from the supermarket's pharmacy section, but doctors say it is not safe and can cause serious health risks.

Doctor Galllard from the Liverpool area expressed her concern about this new service; just days after Tesco announced it.  Along with the Liverpool community center, doctor Gallard mentions that medications for erectile dysfunction such as Viagra should only be offered by a general practitioner, due to the products risks and side effects.

Quote Dr. Stephanie Gallard

"I am very concerned that if men in Merseyside start buying Viagra from supermarkets, we could see increased numbers of cases of cardiovascular disease"

She goes on to saying how cardio vascular disease and diabetes is an early warning sign of a more serious health condition, not just erectile dysfunction. And once spotted, more tests should be performed by the GP.

No. Back in 2009 Boots pharmacy opens its doors to men who want to get Viagra directly from the pharmacist. They apply the same procedures that Tesco will apply, which consist in giving each man a blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes exam. If they pass, men will be able to buy it straight from the counter. These tests however, are performed in a discreet manner and not around other customers.

What's the difference between Boots Pharmacy and Tesco?

Pricing: The price difference is almost 50% of savings. Boots pharmacy currently sells 4 pills of Viagra for £55, Tesco will come to the market by selling 8 pills for £52, more than half the cost.

Tesco has announced the service will be available at hundreds of their stores nationwide. Doctor's expressed several more concerns, such as:

1) If a patient is refused a prescription from a GP, what stops them from going over to Tesco or Boots?
2) ED medications can interfere with other drugs, what if men are not aware of this?
