Flibanserin could be the next Female Viagra.
You may remember several years ago that when attempting to create a medicine that decreased ones blood pressure that the drug Viagra failed but that there was an unintended side effect which has made Viagra famous. Well guess what? The drug manufacturers appear to have failed again. This time with a medicine called Flibanserin, which they had hoped would be a good antidepressant. Although the drug failed to lift the mood of the depressed, it seemed to increase the sex drive of female laboratory test animals and of the women who were testing the drug as an antidepressant. However there appears to be no impact upon the male libido
So multiple future tests were done on female subjects, this time with the intention of determining whether in fact a woman’s libido was increased or not. In the vast majority of the cases the women had increased desire and enjoyed the sex act more. The women were given 100mg of this new drug called Flibanserin once per day. The tests were funded by Boehringer Ingelheim and involved 2,000 women in North America and Europe. According to Doctor John Thorp, who led the study, Flibanserin is “essentially a Viagra-like drug for women in that diminished desire or libido is the most common feminine sexual problem, like erectile dysfunction is in men.” It would appear that Flibanserin, will be the woman’s answer to Viagra. Although some doctors are skeptical just as some were when Viagra was first introduced, the researchers believe they have found female wonder drug. We expect future positive announcements coming from the manufacturer, Boehringer Ingelheim, in the near future. |
