Can Viagra can cause condoms to fail or Break
According to a recent study mentioned on aidsmap.com, men who take Viagra and other erectile dysfunction medications such as Cialis or Levitra are more likely to break condoms or experience condom failure than men who are not using them. This research is not fully proven due to a similar study being done that did not find the same results.
In the initial study 440 men were selected who used condom for vaginal sex. One out of every ten men used an impotence drug such as Viagra and over 10% of them had condom failure vs. five percent of the men that did not experience any failure. Most men who have sex during a much longer period of time were more likely to report their condoms breaking than the ones who did not. Men should be notified and aware that having sex during longer amounts of time increases the risks of a condom breaking.
Researches who conduct these studies say that medications for ED such as Viagra increase the swelling during the erection which makes the condom tighter and at risking of bursting. Researchers recommend that men who do take Viagra and have vaginal or anal sex should consider on using larger condoms but they still run the risk of condom breakage if participating in sex for longer periods of time. In a second study that was done the results were completely different. Over 700 men participated in this one in which a few cases were anal sex with a condom. Out of all the men in the study only 7% used an erectile dysfunction medication and condom breakage was not reported extensively, only a few rare cases were noted. These studies highlight how important it is for researchers to continue doing further studies into the use of condoms while on erectile dysfunction medications such as Viagra. |
