After several operations baby Alfie is alive and well
Little baby Alfie Oliver was born with his arteries reversed and required several operations to keep him alive, the first operation was when he was only 2 weeks old. Many doctors warned his parents that he may only have weeks to live after suffering from a heart attack during an operation at only 3 months of age. Doctors had diagnosed the little guy with pulmonary hypertension, which is not very common among little babies but does affect a few. He was prescribed a liquid type of Viagra which opens up Alfies blood vessels and allows his circulation to improve.
How is he Doing now? Now the little guys is about to celebrate his first birthday thanks to the Erectile Dysfunction medication Viagra. According to several news articles in the UK he is doing rather well and learning to walk. Although doctors have said he might required a heart transplant some day. He has regular checkups done at a hospital in the UK called Ormond Street Children's Hospital and hopefully he will live a long life without requiring any transplants. The boys mother Tracey quoted:
"We were shocked when the doctors put him on Viagra as you don't think of it as a drug for babies."It makes people giggle when we tell them - but if it keeps our son alive then who cares."
This is not the first case where a baby has been saved by Viagra, it has been used by doctors for several years as a last resort for saving the life of premature babies. Sildenafil helps open up the blood vessels so in can caputer oxygen and take it through out the body and in many cases can save the lives of little babies.
