man talking to a doctorOut of 215 men who have ED half decided to talk to their doctors

According to reports, over 150 million men worldwide suffer from erectile dysfunction, and by 2020 reports say that over 320 million men will suffer this condition. Why the exponential growth, more men in the proper age category? More stresses due to life? Or maybe it’s because some cultures find it taboo to report this condition.

A recent report from DoctorOnline in Bulgaria shows that 50% of men are willing to talk to a physician about their ED issues if it is done in complete discretion. This report was based on interviewing 215 men. In the same report, it was mentioned until recently just over 10 percent of men would report this only a few short years ago.

Bulgarians sexual culture is changing and they are more open to discussing their erectile dysfunction issues with professionals.

An erection is obtained by receiving signals from the brain indicating arousal. These signals then increase blood flow to the penis via blood vessels. The vessels are somewhat sponge like and hold the blood in to maintain the erection.

ED occurs when these blood vessels cannot maintain the increase blood flow for various reasons. The most common being these vessels are getting plugged, which doctors are saying can be early signs of coronary problems.

As more studies are done on erectile dysfunction, more explanations are starting to be more relevant. Antidepressants and nicotine are high on the list. Also alcohol, smoking, and drugs definitely have an impact on the performance of the penis.

Stress and age play a part as well as diet and exercise. Then injuries come into play that also works against the male libido such as spinal cord and brain injuries. Then the list goes into illnesses like stroke, MS, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.

These studies have all revealed the possible reason for ED, but the overall growth in this condition maybe simply men seeking the help they refused to talk about. One report has shown that men suffering from ED have a similar impact than the great depression or the collapse of the New York Stock Exchange.
