doctor and man getting a Cardiovascular ExamCardiovascular Exam before ED Prescription

Experts say many men who get coronary artery disease (CAD) first experience erectile dysfunction (ED). Men who are experiencing impotence today should in fact undergo thorough coronary medical assessments. These already known correlations between ED and CAD are being enforced everyday.

The International Journal of Clinical Practice reported last month that many men that develop ED are likely to develop some type of coronary symptoms within 3 years, and within another 2 years actually suffer a cardiovascular event such as a heart attack. The study authors have looked at much of the research surrounding the relationship between erectile dysfunction and coronary artery disease.

11 experts Launch An International Study
A new study which launched the report in the International Journal of Clinical Practice was compiled by a London based cardiologist, Dr. Graham Jackson. There were also 11 experts in on the study from Greece, Italy, the UK, and the USA. Here are the 3 main findings in the study:

1.    In two thirds of the men, ED does affect them before the onset of CAD. This is easier seen in men ages 40 to 69 than it is in men over 70.
2.    In men with type 2 diabetes, and ED in otherwise healthy men may be associated with a sub form of CAD, which is signs of reduced blood flow and calcification of the arteries.
3.    ED sufferers were shown to have more dysfunction in the left ventricle of the heart than those without. Also, the more severe the ED, the more severe the CAD later on.

The authors go on to report that the correlation between ED and CAD may be due to atherosclerosis, a condition that restricts blood flow by a build up of plaque. Other reports including this one suggests that the smaller arteries around the penis are affected by the plaque first, and only later affecting the larger arteries around the heart. This would certainly explain the symptoms of ED before cardiovascular disease.

Exercise and Staying Active Can Reduce Coronary Artery Disease And ED

It’s obvious with all the research surrounding these events that ED certainly can be a warning sign to other more severe issues to men’s physical health, but that the general public or the health care industry has yet to be recognized or has very limited recognition. Recognizing these relationships could in fact help or even save lives.
