man with back painCan Back Pain Solutions Help ED?

Men who think they have erectile dysfunction really need to be checked by a doctor. If you suffer from back pain, this may also be the cause of your problem. Back injuries can restrict the flow of blood into the pelvic areas, and blood flow or restriction to the penis is the cause of erectile dysfunction. Professionally treating your back pain could resolve you ED problem at the same time. Alvarado Hospital, the first hospital based in the US with a sexual medicine program recently discovered that treating some men’s back injuries also cured their erection issues. Irwin Goldstein, M.D., the hospitals Sexual Medicine Programs director connected the two problems.

One of his patients had been in a car wreck and complained of back pain, leg numbness, and erection problems. “After examining the patient thoroughly, we  discovered he had injured his pelvic floor muscles,” said Dr. Goldstein. Alvarado Hospital happens to have a therapist with extensive knowledge in this type of injury. Treating the injury resolved the man’s erectile dysfunction problem as well.

The physical therapist, Kerri Krebs, helped with the recovery by strengthening the patients core and lumbar. This helped relax the pelvic floor muscles by supporting them. Pelvic muscles can become weak causing spasms after a back injury as more load is put on them. These spasm’s restricted the flow of blood to the pelvic area causing the leg numbness and erection problem. Once the back and core was strong again, all his other issues cleared up as well, thus eliminating any requirements for Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra

However, other issues could cause these same symptoms warns Ramin Raiszadeh, M.D. an orthopedic spine specialist. These other issues include cardiovascular disease, infection, inflammation, tumors, and diabetes. “So please make sure these are properly diagnosed” he adds.

Other approaches to erectile dysfunction and back pain can also be explores, such as therapeutic massage, acupuncture, Yoga, and plain old exercise. Anything that will strengthen and increase blood flow will certainly not hurt for your overall health.
