Labels of Levitra to show possible risk of sudden hearing loss Levitra and the other erectile dysfunction drugs are expected to amend their labels, this time showing the possibility of sudden hearing loss due after the intake of the drug. This came after several patients with erectile dysfunction complained of sudden hearing loss. The Food and Drug Administration of the United States has received significant reports regarding this most recent side effect of Levitra and the other erectile dysfunction drugs. This prompted the FDA to advice patients to immediately cease from taking the drug when they experience the hearing loss or its symptoms. Levitra is just one of the three erectile dysfunction drugs approved by the FDA for commercial distribution. The other two are Cialis and Viagra. While the said drug has been proven effective in treating erectile dysfunction, there are contraindications and side effects. Levitra is not compatible with nitrate drugs as it may result to sudden drops in blood pressure levels. There is also the risk of long-term injury arising from an erection that lasts for more than four hours. However, these are side effects that have been made known to the users since the introduction of Levitra. The rise in the number of patients suffering from sudden vision loss and sudden hearing loss has alerted the authorities to the possibility of additional risks when taking Levitra and the two other erectile dysfunction drugs. The FDA has not yet determined if such conditions are a direct result of the intake of these medicines but it has warned users to stop taking the erectile dysfunction medicines and see their doctors immediately if they experience the symptoms of sudden vision loss or hearing loss. The order to display the text conveying the possible risk of sudden hearing loss more prominently in the label on Levitra aims to create awareness among the users as they may think that they are experiencing dizziness, ringing in the ears or sudden hearing loss as a result of old age. This was confirmed by FDA deputy commissioner for scientific and medial programs Dr. Janet Woodcock who said that some patients do not discuss the symptoms of hearing loss with their doctors at all thinking that it is associated with aging. The label change is also expected to serve as a guide to users so they know what to do in case they experience sudden hearing loss or dizziness while under medication. The revisions will be reflected not only in the labels of Levitra and other erectile dysfunction drugs but also in all of their marketing materials and websites.
