Can Levitra cause amnesia?
The erectile dysfunction drug Levitra is facing another controversy this time the reports that some patients using Levitra are experiencing temporary bouts of amnesia. This side effect called transient global amnesia is expected to be indicated in the new labels of Levitra. TGA or transient global amnesia is much like the ordinary amnesia except that it does not last for more than a day and does not cause the patients any other problems. Levitra’s camp however does not concede that the indication of getting TGA in the labels is a warning that Levitra can result to memory problems. In fact transient amnesia among erectile dysfunction patients may have been caused by other factors including sexual activity.
The possibility that sex can trigger transient global amnesia was confirmed by Dr. Louis R. Caplan, a professor of neurology at Harvard University. Caplan also confirmed that TGA is nothing to be afraid of although people are scared of it. Transient global amnesia, according to Caplan, does not have long-term effects on the memory and it does not affect function. But while the transient amnesia being experienced by those taking in Levitra is nothing to worry about, patients who experience this should consult with their doctors to make sure that nothing is wrong. Manufacturers of erectile dysfunction drugs like Levitra are one in saying that the drugs are safe but side effects like hearing loss and temporary amnesia are always a possibility. While Levitra’s labels notes down the possibility of transient global amnesia as a possibility this is not an admission or an indication that Levitra was the cause of TGA. They however admit to receiving several reports of men experiencing TGA after taking in Levitra. This is all part of Levitra’s information dissemination campaign to help consumers. Medical journals also reported several cases of erectile dysfunction patients who have experienced TGA. However there is as yet no conclusive evidence that erectile dysfunction drugs like Levitra can cause TGA. However, the new Levitra warnings should be seen as a guideline to using the drug. If you are suffering from the symptoms of erectile dysfunction and are contemplating the intake of Levitra make sure you consult your doctor and inform him about your concern on the possibility that such medication can cause amnesia. Levitra , like other erectile dysfunction medications, are generally safe but nothing beats the go signal of your doctor before using any of these medications to reduce or even avoid the side effects.
