Default New Member - Can I take Viagra or something similar?

I am a new member and hope I can help as many as I can now I have found this forum. It seems I have made a good choice.
In 2007 I had a heart attack and was prescribed Nitro Quick (Small nitroglygerine tablets) which are put under the tounge
From 2007 - 2009 I took only 3 tablets over the entire two years. After I burped the problem passed the two I took over a two year span I feel I really did not need to take. My cardiologist would not Rx Viagra because I was prescribed and thought to be dependant on Nitro Quick.

I am a diabetic type II and take insullin. I have ED problems which is (Depressing).

I just turned 61 years. I have not had the need to take any nitrates (Knock on Wood).
I have not taken any Nitro Quick for at least 2 years now 2009 - 2011.
I consider myself nitrate free, I do not carry or have the prescription filled at all now.
Do you feel I could take Viagra safely?? for my ED problems?
Thank you for your time reading this post.
    Rick

Just read that Levitra is preferred by many diabetics. Not sure why but worth researching.

As for heart problems, your doctor would tell you... Mine always does my blood pressure before prescribing

Patients with heart problems should not take Viagra. Consult your doctor before you start any treatment, self medication is always a risk.

My cardiologist said I could use Viagra as long as my stress tests were ok and my blood pressure stayed close to normal. Of course nitrates are out of the question with Viagra and there is the awkwardness of telling my partner that I have heart problems and use Viagra, just in case I were to have a heart attack. The doc wouldn't give me any of the other ED drugs because Viagra clears out of your system quicker, but works very well for me.

    Default Talk to your Doctor....

Ask your doctor if you have a 'crowded disk' in the back of the eye. He'll probably ask you what that is. If he's unsure, go to an ophthamologist and have him take a picture of the back of the eye. If you have this, don't go near any of these ED drugs. I lost 40% of my vision after taking Cialis. It was found I had a 'disk at risk' or 'crowded disk'. I had none of the conditions associated with ION (that's what I was diagnosed with) in my left eye. ION is ischemic optic neuropathy, or optic nerve stroke. You also need to read the drug literature for Cialis, Viagra and Levitra. They all talk about if you're diabetic, a smoker, if you have heart disease, don't go near these drugs. They're not vitamins...they are serious drugs. Your choice.
