Default Humiliating Eco Doppler Experience for my Erectile Dysfunction

    Hi Everyone,

I joined this forum to tell my humiliating story and my attempt to get rid of my Erectile Dysfunction. I have been suffering from it for years and am only 29 years old. The first couple of times I started to experience it my Urologist recommended I try Cialis. He gave me instructions on how to take it and told me I had to split one pill in 8 pieces and take a piece every 3 days, this is another story I will tell, I actually had success with this.

Anyway, I am side tracking here and want to get back to my story about the Medical ultrasonography I had done aka Eco Doppler here in South America. Although I was having success with Cialis I told my doctor that I did not want to depend on it forever, since I am only 29. He gave me a sheet that specified a few tests I had to get done at my local laboratory. Some of the marks on the sheet included:

    Testosterone Check
    Blood Work
    Cholesterol Check
    Eco Doppler

I did not ask any questions and proceeded to the laboratory to get the tests. I was in for a surprise and did not know what was to come, I thought an Eco Doppler (Ultrasonography) would be an x-ray of my penis but I was wrong and found out in the most humiliating way possible.

As I approached the counter to confirm my appointment, there were 4 very attractive nurses waiting to receive me in the waiting room. I showed them the sheet my doctor gave me and they asked me what the Eco Doppler was for? They could not understand the Doctors writing. They initially asked me if it was for my heart and I said I do not think so. Since I had no idea what this “Medical ultrasonography” was, I called my doctor and asked. He told me in Spanish it was for “Cuerpos Cardernosos” (Spanish medical term for Penis). So that sounded like something I can say in public right! Wrong! I then walked over to the pretty nurses and told them “It is for Cuerpos Cardernosos”; all 4 of them giggled and said “Ohhh El Pene” in front of a waiting room filled with at least 40 people. I turned red as a tomato and felt my manhood hit the floor.

I understand and agree with seeing an Urologist for Erectile Dysfunction but people must understand, this is a very delicate topic for men and not is not easy to discuss, especially in front of women. This is the main reason I wanted to just order ED meds (in my case cialis) from a website so no one knows my face or problem, but I did not want to depend on it forever. I felt humiliated and terrible when these nurses said this and the whole waiting room looked at me funny after the incident. Before women and professionals judge men on ED and insist on seeing a doctor please keep in mind that we want to, but in the end we have to put aside our pride and face humiliation! This is why I believe most men decide not to talk to anyone and just ignore the problem. I have seen many Viagra commercials and they all mention ways to talk to your doctor about ED, what they fail to mention, even in the fine print is, put your pride aside for a moment and let everyone know you have ED.

I usually buy my prescription refills online and have had 0% humiliation doing this, but I can only imagine what would happen if I ask the pharmacist for a Cialis refill, will they giggle in my face as well? Talk about it with fellow workers at the pharmacy?

Let me proceed on what happened with my tests, trust me it gets worse.

After the embarrassment I experienced with the staff I was guided to a room that had the Ultrasonography machine and it did not look like an X-ray machine. A male doctor (thank heavens) then came in and reviewed my sheet. He asked me if my doctor had explained the procedure for this, I said no. He then told me that he would need to inject my penis 2 times with the medication Caverject and wait until I am erect to scan my penis for blood flow!!!!!! Need I say more?

It was very painful having my penis injected with Caverject and 3 times as painful having a 40 year old guy scanning my penis with a machine. I do not want to go into more detail about this but to make a long story short, it was the most humiliating and painful experience I have ever had.

Every one looks at you and their faces show a strange expression, as if they knew you had ED and at such a young age. I have to pick up my tests Friday and do the blood work while I am there. I am so embarrassed, that I have decided to just pick up the test in a baseball cap and glasses and do the blood work somewhere else. Anything beats sitting in the waiting room for another hour with 4 gorgeous nurses looking at me in disgrace.

I will report how everything went. Please keep in mind that I do have mild Erectile Dysfunction but can get an erection with Cialis. I went though all this based on the advice of my Urologist. If I would have known this would be humiliating and embarrassing, I would have never gone back to see him.

    Hi art88!

Welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing your experience.

Yes, I know how you feel. My case was similar to yours (mild psychogenic ED) and I remember when I first consulted my urologist, I was extremely nervous, too. It is, however, a small price to pay. Going to the doctor is essential and the first step towards a full recovery.

I'm sure the nurses weren't laughing at you. I can speak Spanish too (I'm Portuguese) and saying 'it is for cuerpos cavernosos' (corpus cavernosum, plural corpora cavernosa) sounds a bit strange. Nevertheless, the nurses' bahvior was extremely unprofessional. ED is a delicate situation for any patient, they should know it and they should act accordingly.

And why on earth were there 40 people in the room?! Was it a public hospital? Any decent sexual health clinic should provide a discreet, comfortable environment for their patients.

By the way, you're no less of a man just because you're taking ED drugs. Most men experience erectile difficulties some time in their lives (this is why Viagra is the bestselling drug in the world). The only difference is we are smart enough to do something about it.

Again, this seems unprofessional to me. Your doctor should have explained all the procedures in detail.

Anyway, I hope this wasn't all in vain. ED is a multifactorial condition and these tests are essential to determine the exact cause of your problem. Yes, it's embarrassing but you're doing the right thing.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Yeah it is a small price to pay but I must say it was very humiliating!!

Thats what I thought, but as you can see there are still allot of people who mock ED and think it is a weakness in a man. We do not make fun of women or look down on them if they can't get pregnant right? I think women and men who do not have ED, still need time to understand the condition and not make fun of it. Once that time comes I think men with ED will not feel shy or embarrassed to see a doctor about it or to buy a medication like Viagra from a female pharmacist.

No it was a centro de diagnosticos, which is a clinic that only does blood work and doppler tests, it is always busy there. Huge clinic with allot of nurses!!!

Yeah I know, but I do not want to depend on them for the rest of my life, I am only 29 years old

He is usually a good doctor but this time he failed to explain this to me
