Great news! Scientists in Naples, Italy discovered that hydrogen sulfide can contribute to erections in men.
Hydrogen sulfide is a vasodilator - i.e. it helps expand blood vessels - and further research may lead to the development of new ED drugs.

Obviously the quantities involved in getting an erection are too small to smell. And you're right, there's so much going on right now in the field of ED. We're lucky to be living in 2009, 10 years ago there were no effective therapies available (only pumps and those dreadful injections).
