Wafer Film Strip, An Upcoming Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction

A Canadian company named IntelGenx might be developing a faster way of treating erectile dysfunction, with a wafer. The wafer is a small strip that can be placed on the tongue and it dissolves in a matter of seconds. They contain the same active ingredient as other impotence medications. Viagra's main chemical is Sildenafil, Cialis has Tadalafil and Levitra uses the PDE5 Vardenafil.

It is unclear which PDE5 inhibitor the new wafer will contain. What is clear is that it will work 30% faster than the pill form. Tablets or pills for erectile dysfunction can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour for the effects to start, some men have reported Levitra in acting under 25 minutes.

How does it work and when will it be ready?

They work kind of like those Listerine pocket strips for bad breath. Since the wafer is placed on the tongue it can dissolve rather quickly. The Human mouth is filled with hundreds of blood vessels, most noted under the tongue; this gives the wafer faster access to the bloodstream, allowing the effects kick in swiftly.

IntelGenx still has to run several trials before this new blockbuster can hit the shelves. But the manufacturer is confident that men can start buying this new wafer type of Viagra within the next 3 years. Depending on the results, the same type of wafers can be developed for treating other medical conditions such as anxiety and hypertension.
