spider waiting for attackSpider venom for Erectile Dysfunction

Back in March we blogged about a Brazilian spider whos venom caused prolonged erections in Men who were bitten. According to several news reports Brazilian and US scientists are now looking deeper into this spiders venom. The spider is called Phoneutria nigriventer and men who are bitten by it experience praipism which is what caused very long and sometimes painful erections.

Scientists have been studying this spider venom for a little over 2 years and they have discovered it has a toxin named TX2-6 which is what causes the erection in men who are bitten. These studies have not been approved and would have to undergo a series of studies in order to be approved for use. But approval might be just around the corner and it may be approved in a matter of months unlike the recent nanoparticls study for ED that might take up to 10 years to be released.

However researches have interviewed men who were bitten by it and most claim that their sex lives have improved ever since they were bitten which can mean a long term treatment for men who suffer from ED. Medications such as Viagra , Cialis or Levitra can last for a limited time so hopes for this new venom treatment are high.

Scientists say that mixing this venom with common erectile dysfunction medications such as Viagra could produce much better results and effects for maintaining and achieving an erection. The venom has already been tested on rats who suffer from severe erectile dysfunction and high blood pressure. After injecting the TX2-6 into the rats researchers observed an improvement and higher levels of nitric oxide.

This new spider venom could be a very promising treatment and we will stay tuned for further news and research on TX2-6 the venom from the Brazilian wondering spider Phoneutria nigriventer.
