cialis commercial exampleAAP wants Sexual and ED commercials during family hours to stop

A policy statement published this Sunday by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), has expressed its concern about inappropriate advertising on erectile dysfunction and overall sexual commercials, aired during prime time hours. Marketing executives and lawmakers are currently evaluating the statement and have a complex issue to oversee.

Children are also an audience when marketing firms decide to advertise impotence medications such as Cialis, Viagra or Levitra, during peak hours. Most men and women know what they are and what message the advertising firms are trying to send.

Although most commercials do not directly advertise the medications are used for sexual purposes, the younger generations, especially teenagers are not immune to these types of commercials and can understand where they are going.

Inappropriate ED commercials

couple holding handsThe statement published by the AAP, expresses how sex and inappropriate ED commercials are widespread among the Internet, music, movies and television. However, publications on birth control and abstinence are not seen as much. TV ads for “the day after pill” or any other sort of birth control are not run. Commercials about men, who suffer from erectile dysfunction and what they can take to treat it, are displayed for families during regular TV hours and not late night infomercials, that air after 12.

The young audience can misunderstand these message and some republicans think this should stop. This brings us back to last year when Republican Jim Moran wanted to limit the time any impotence related commercials be aired.

Children and young adults spend allot more time watching television and recent reality TV series, much more than adults. The AAP thinks this should be evaluated and a solution must be found to come up with a better way of preventing this from happening.
