Zoraxel to Push Forward with ED testing

Rexahn Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has decided to move onto phase IIb of its study of Zoraxel due to a number of factors. First, it has proved to be very safe with few side affects reported. 2nd, it has shown consistent performance for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

Phase IIb will focus on 225 men with erectile dysfunction between the ages of 18 and 65. The 12 week study which is a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled study. It will include the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), Sexual Encounter Profile (SEP) survey, and quality of life endpoints.

The study which is to be conducted at multiple US sites should have preliminary data available in 2011 which will begin later in 2010.

Phase IIa was completed in May 2009
Rexahn is a clinical stage pharmaceutical company which commercializes potential best in class oncology and CNS therapeutics. Its phase IIa study completed in May of ’09, shown consistent improvement of the 39 erectile dysfunction patients and IIEF scores treated with Zoraxel. And with no serious adverse events reported, the quality of life in these patients also improved.

Zoraxel is being developed to be marketed as an orally taken erectile dysfunction drug. Zoraxel has shown to be extremely safe in humans. Not only that, but compared to the current standard care of phosphodiesterase inhibitor drugs, the studies show relatively low side affects. These inhibitors have side affects such as sudden death, sudden hearing loss, increased intraocular pressure, severe hypotension, and myocardial infarction. Zoraxel may be more affective as it is centrally acting, enhancing serotonin and dopamine in the brain.
