The newly anticipated premature ejaculation spray can be hitting the market soon enough, and men will be able to buy the PSD502 spray before you can say “Darn, not again”. Over 35 percent of men suffer from PE and the company Shionogi Pharma did their math on this, they are hopping to launch as soon as possible.

At an annual meeting for the Urological Association in California, Shionogi Pharma presented doctors and sexual medicines experts on their new drug PSD502. Its name does sound interesting but some experts believe that it is not much different than products that are already available on the market.

You might have seen similar products. Durex even has a set of condoms that contains a small amount of lube, they are called Durex  Performax. This lube is suppose to de-sensitize the tip of the penis and contains a popular active ingredient called Benzocaine.  This is not the only product out their for PE, there are many different kinds of creams, one in particular is called MANDELAY, it also contains the ingredient Benzocaine.

What is the difference between this new PSD502 Spray and the others?
The founder of San Diego’s Journal of Sexual medicines has high hopes for PSD502, the reason for this is the mixture of two well know painkillers it contains. The new spray will contain a combination of lidocaine and prilocaine. They both have been tested on PE patients with great results. The trial that was conducted on PSD502 seemed to work. The men who took place in it reported being able to last up to 5 minutes with their partner, before they were only able to go for 30 seconds. A smaller percentage then reported being able to last over 3 minutes, which is not the best, but a huge improvement to 30 seconds.

New hope for Premature Ejaculation PSD502 spray

PE (premature ejaculation) almost always occurs before vaginal penetration or within a minute of penetration. This very topic is still very taboo in a very conservative Asia, but according to studies up to 30 percent of men suffer from this. New hope may be on the horizon, the Asia Pacific Premature Ejaculation Prevalence and Attitude Study (AP PEPA) released in December could be the first step in helping make this condition prevalent in the medical community.

Even though as many as 30% of the male population may suffer from this, few men are willing to admit it, and even fewer are likely to seek help with the condition. Around 5000 men from 10 Asian countries were involved in a study conducted by Dr. George Lee Eng Geap, a consultant urologist at the University of Malaya and a clinical associate at the Monash University. The men studied were between the ages of 18 and 65.

Dr. Lee along with Dr. Zulkifli Zainuddin, secretary general of the Malaysian Urological Association both spoke at length trying to create awareness about a PE and educated the public about their misunderstanding on the subject.

This condition which has a distinctive difference from erectile dysfunction (ED) is not a life threatening condition, thus its under publicized. But none the less, according to Zulkifli this condition does have devastating affects on men and their relationships.

This condition can lead to relationships failing, leading to breakups and divorce. It can also make a man refrain from entering a long lasting relationship of any kind and lower there self esteem into depression.

Because of the taboo nature of the condition, men are extremely reluctant to discuss their situation with their partners or doctors to try and come up with a solution. Thus making men go to extreme measures like buying roadside products that only cause other issues, or purchasing products on-line that likely don’t work.

The very first step needed to accomplish is to get men to acknowledge the condition. Second, these same men must improve communication between them and their partners. Once both are on board together, then seek help from the medical community, whether it be a doctor or a psychologist.

Research is beginning to show that PE is actually affecting more men than ED, actually 1 in 3 men are affected. Atlanta based Sciele Pharma’s senior product manager says “it’s a huge unmet need”.

Both Johnson & Johnson and Sciele Pharma are hoping to capitalize on the next Viagra which had worldwide sales last year of about 1.93 billion. Both are currently awaiting FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approval.

Sciele Pharma is marketing a metered dose aerosol which is sprayed on the penis to increase latency time. Company reps are meeting journalist’s and attending medical conferences to drum up sympathy for PE. They want to call attention to PE and make it a medical problem in which they will provide a prescription drug solution.

Priligy has come out of the Johnson and Johnson camp which takes aim at Premature Ejaculation in a pill form also aimed at increasing latency before orgasm. This would be welcome to men who ejaculate before or shortly after the act of intercourse. Priligy actually went on sale last year in none other countries such as Sweden, Germany and Spain but is still awaiting approval in the USA.

Dr. Hellstrom claims the actual PE numbers stand at about 20-30%. Hellstrom, who has consulted for Johnson & Johnson, is a professor of urology at the Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans.

The 1 in 3 numbers come from a study based on a 1992 survey which included questions on fidelity. Sexologists dispute these numbers as the study was not geared toward answering sexual health questions.

Sciele’s spray on application has shown to increase the time to orgasm to 2.6 minutes, up from 36 seconds. So now how do marketers convince the health care sector and the general public that this is a serious enough issue to create a whole new marketable disease?

Viagra did it. Pfizer introduced the drug in 1998, creating the only medication for treating ED. They started out something like this; Make people aware of a quality of life issue that does not yet have a prescription to help this issue. 1) The men who used the PSD502 spray: They delayed their orgasm for up to 4 minutes which means that it helped them last over 6 times longer than usual compared to the guys who were on the placebo, but what happened to the men who took the placebo?

2) The men who took the Placebo: Compared the the guys who applied the spray the men who were given the placebo only lasted up to one minute.

In conclusion 90 percent of the men who applied the spray were able to last over 1 minute, 70 percent of the men who used the spray could go for over two minutes and 60 percent of the guys who had applied the PSD502 spray said that there overall orgasms where much better in the following months. However there were a few side effects and the ones complained about the most was vaginal burning sensation for women and some erection weakness (ED).
