Did you know that Viagra was actually under clinical trials for being a potential treatment for angina? The drug known then as UK-92,480 was under clinical supervision and the researchers found the test subjects reporting erections.

Intrigued by these reports. They launched a new study using a Rigiscan device to measure erections. These are loops placed over the erection to gauge how hard and erect the penis’s got during sexual stimulation.

Sildenafil (Viagra) is also marketed under the name Revatio for the treatment high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs called pulmonary hypertension.

Sildenafil has also showed that men with angina can prolong their time exercising thus decreased the loss of muscle tissue. Could this suggest other uses for ED medication such as congestive heart failure, stroke, hypertension, and certain lung disorders?

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center researchers are currently testing Cialis (tadalafil), another erectile dysfunction drug, on men with Becker Muscular Dystrophy. This is one of the nine forms of muscular dystrophy, which is a group of muscle wasting diseases. Since tadalafil dilates blood vessels, and muscular dystrophy seems to be related to a lack of blood supply, the idea seems natural.

Dr. Ronald G. Victor of Cedars and his colleagues want to try this, which is being funded by the Muscular Dystrophy Association. They plan on testing 24 men with Becker’s, who will receive either a placebo or tadalafil, and then they will measure the amount of blood flow to the muscles while exercising.

This follows research on animal types of muscular dystrophy on mice. The research showed that the mice that had taken the drug could exercise much more vigorously with less muscle damage.

It would seem that these drugs may represent a new line of treatments other than what they are marketed for.

Participants were interviewed by the Andrology Unit at Antwerp University Hospital in Belgium at the start of the study, then again after 1 month, 6 months, and again after 12 months. They discussed relationship problems, sexual, as well as whether or not their partner knew of their Erectile Dysfunction problem and supported it. Most of the partners were supportive of the man going for a consultation at the beginning of the study.

At the end of the year long study the number of reported problems was down drastically to 4% from 17% at the beginning of the study. Furthermore, 84% of the couples were still using Cialis at the end of the study. Researchers concluded that Cialis had an effective impact on these relationships. An interesting note however, 3% of the patients did develop problems in the year long study suggesting that the re-introduction of sexual activity into a sexually dormant relationship could also put strain on said relationship.

1) Does Cialis cause an erection right away?
No. There needs to be sexual stimulation in order to achieve and maintain an erection. Cialis is not the only exception for this. Most erectile dysfunction treatments require sexual arousal in order to take effect. Cialis helps the erection occur and once the sexual activity is finished the erection will go away on its own. 2) Can you eat and drink if taking it?
There is no problem with enjoying a meal while taking cialis, it is however recommended not to eat fatty foods. Drinking alcohol in excess should not be done when taking Cialis, drinking too much can increase the side effects such as headache and lowering blood pressure.

3) How long does it take to work and how long does it last?
If your doctor has you on the 36-hour treatment then in most men it can work as fast as 30 minutes and last for 36 hours. Now this is not the case for all men but many have talked about Cialis lasting for a whole weekend which would start on a Friday evening and still be effective until Sunday night.
