Various pharmaceutical companies across the globe are struggling to get their products on the market. What is taking so long? Out of many that are probably being testing as we speak, there are about 4 new erectile dysfunction medications that have made it through several clinical trials and many of them are in the final stages of being approved. Once they get the OK and hit pharmacies, it will bring a huge shift to the current market leaders and the ED market in general. It is an extremely competitive field.

Viagra will loose its patent in 2012 and generic versions will become widely available, take a look at the forecast of what will happen then:

What products are in the ED pipeline?

1) Avanafil: Being developed by Vivus, this is the one that is showing the most potential and is almost ready to hit the market. Some researcher’s say it is being released a little late due to the Viagra patent expiration:

Business wire quote:

One of the promising molecules is Avanafil, which is unlikely to have much impact as the market has high competition among similar products and will experience generic erosion after 2012 due to patent expiry of Viagra

2) Zoraxel: This medication is also making some big noise. Being developed by Rexahn Pharmaceuticals, Zoraxel was proven to be very safe with limited side effects. It completed what is called phase 2b trials, just a few foot steps behind Avanafil.

Rexahn confirmed with one of our readers in the Edguider forum, (go to post Zoraxel in 2013) that Zoraxel works on areas in the brain that relate to arousal, erection and release, which is something that can really tackle performance anxiety. It should be ready by 2013 but will have a tough time breaking into the market with generic versions of Viagra already available. You can keep up with the latest news on Zoraxel in our forum, there is a thread dedicated to this up comer:
