Cialis To Overrun Viagra

The competition among the three erectile dysfunction drugs approved by the United States Food and Drug Authority is heating up as Cialis is slowly making a move to overrun Viagra as the top erectile dysfunction drug worldwide.  Cialis, Viagra and Levitra all belong to a family of drugs that are referred to as PDE5 inhibitors.

Cialis is available by prescription in pharmacies physically and online. It is being marketed in over 40 countries worldwide.  Originally developed by a small biotech company called Icos, Cialis is now a joint venture between the latter and Eli Lilly.  The resulting partnership is known as Lilly Icos. Viagra was the first erectile dysfunction treatment medication approved by the US FDA and it was able to corner the market for a long time. However, the approval of other erectile dysfunction drugs like Cialis and Levitra has divided the market and Cialis is now threatening to dislodge Viagra as the top erectile dysfunction

The makers of Cialis are confident that there is untapped market, the demand of which can be met by Cialis. This, despite the fact, that millions of people worldwide are already using Viagra. Records show that Viagra has managed to attract only a fraction of the 175 million men suffering from erectile dysfunction worldwide.

Viagra is presently enjoying at least $1.5 billion per year but this is expected to rise in the coming years to over $6 billion and such earning will be divided between the three erectile dysfunction drugs.

The edge of Cialis over Viagra is its ability to work faster and longer.  For some men, Cialis works for up to 24 hours compared to Viagra which works for only four hours.  There were reports that Cialis still worked for some men even after 36 hours.

It seems that the 17 hours half life of Cialis (which is the time it takes before the blood levels go down to 50%) makes it a longer-lasting drug compared to Viagra which has a half life of four hours. With this half life, there is still 25% of Cialis that is still present in the body 35 hours after ingesting the pill.

Cialis also has the ability to accumulate in the body with regular intake.  A patient who takes in at least one Cialis pill every two days will still have 20% of the pill in his bloodstream on the second day.  The levels of Cialis inside the body is expected to reach a steady state with regular intake until such time the patient can have sex anytime and still get help from Cialis in getting and maintaining an erection.

Those who regularly take in Cialis have experienced slight side effects like headaches and heartburn.  Cialis is however better than Viagra because it does not interact with alcohol or food.

Men who have erectile dysfunction should see their doctors for a prescription of Cialis.  The pill is available in 10mg and 20mg preparations.
