US FDA Approves Once A Day Cialis

The approval of the erectile dysfunction drug Cialis or Tadalafil by the United States Food and Drug Administration as a once a day medication is expected to increase the 2008 net income of Eli Lilly-ICOS from forty to fifty percent of its 2007 earnings. A total of $971 million has been generated by Cialis worldwide in 2006.

The once a day Cialis has been approved by the European Medicines Agency in June last year but it is only available in some parts of European Union.  Lilly ICOS however aims to introduce Cialis to other parts of Europe and the world this year.

This is welcome news to men who are suffering from erectile dysfunction but who are uncomfortable in scheduling the sexual act because they have to take in Cialis first.  With the approval of the once a day Cialis, men can now take the erectile dysfunction drug daily and have more freedom when it comes to their sexual activities.

The once a day Cialis is however available in lower doses of 2.5mg and 5mg compared to the regular Cialis dosage which starts from 5mg up to 20mg. However, the higher Cialis dosages should only be taken as needed unlike the lower dosages which can be taken on a daily basis.

The introduction of the once a day Cialis followed the belief that erectile dysfunction is a chronic condition that requires regular treatment like high blood pressure.

Cialis may not be the first kid in the block of the three erectile dysfunction medications (which include Viagra and Levitra) but it is catching up fast due to the longer efficacy of the drug.  Cialis has proven to be effective for up to 36 hours.

The introduction in the market of the new once a day Cialis will not however be an additional cost to the patients because the cost of the daily pill can be comparable to the cost of using two or more Cialis every week.

Patients who take in Cialis once a day should watch out for the common side effects produced by the regular dose.  Among the common side effects are indigestion, muscle aches, headache and flushing.

The once a day Cialis is a prescription drug so patients should consult their doctors first before changing their medication or their Cialis dosage to maximize the benefits of the drug.  Those who are suffering from serious illnesses should also check with their doctors before taking in Cialis .
